“Education is continuous. If man has to keep abreast with change,
man has to continue reading, listening and learning through education.”
Last July 24, 2020, the AFP CMO School celebrated two (2) milestones: producing fifty-nine new (59) Warrior Diplomats, and welcoming sixty (60) prospective Warrior Diplomats. They are officers from various units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and other government agencies who have graduated from the 18th class of the Strategic Civil-Military Operations Officers Online Course (SCMOOOC), and enrolled in the 19th batch of the class, respectively.
These milestones were marked by simple ceremonies separately held at the Silid Florendo, Civil Relations Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines (CRSAFP), Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. With strict adherence to protocols against the spread of COVID-19, only five (5) students were in attendance in each of the ceremonies. They represented their other classmates who participated in the event through video teleconference.
The Keynote Speaker in the Closing Ceremony of SCMOOOC Class 18-20 was the Commander, CRSAFP, Major General Ernesto C Torres Jr Philippine Army. He commended the fifty-nine (59) new Warrior Diplomats for successfully hurdling the academic and the technical demands of the course since it has opened on February 14, 2020, and for completing the course despite the various challenges they have faced in their respective workplaces and in their personal lives. As he congratulated them, MGen Torres reminded the graduates to always go back to the two (2) objectives of Civil-Military Operations: to be loved by people and be feared by the enemy.
Graduating Number 1 is Police Major Ford B Sudaypan; Number 2 is Colonel Maria Consuelo N Castillo PAF (General Staff Corps); and Number 3 is Captain John Habib J Sy (Judge Advocate General Service). Special awards were also given to select students for their exemplary individual and group outputs.
On the other hand, the Opening Ceremony of SCMOOOC Class 19-20 was graced by the Deputy Commander, CRSAFP, Colonel Medel M Aguilar Philippine Army as Keynote Speaker. He welcomed the sixty (60) prospective Warrior Diplomats to their three-month journey in CMO education, and reminded them to always be strategic thinkers, not just looking at the immediate the effects of an endeavor, but fully picturing its consequences over time. Encouraging the incoming students to update themselves with global trends and matters on national security and national interest in the country and beyond, Colonel Aguilar told the students that the only limit to the conduct of CMO is one’s own imagination.
The AFP CMO School continues to offer CMO courses and CMO-related trainings, helping pave the path for more future warrior diplomats who advocate peace and who are constant partners in nation-building.
