Harnessing Competencies of Social Media Warriors

October 15, 2020 marked the opening of the Social Media Product Development and Management Training Class 12-20 of the AFP Civil-Military Operations School, Civil Relations Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFPCMOS-CRSAFP).

For love of God and country. The ceremony commenced with the singing of the National Anthem followed by the invocation. Shown in photo (from left to right) are the School Commandant, COL VENER Y MORGA PA GSC, the Keynote Speaker, COL MEDEL M AGUILAR MNSA PA, and the Course Director, MAJ RICHARD B RIVERA PAF.

The School Commandant, COLONEL VENER Y MORGA Philippine Army General Staff Corps welcomed the twenty-three (23) prospective Social Media Warriors, from the AFP and the PNP who have enrolled in this training designed to equip them with the competencies in developing social media products vital in helping achieve the AFP objectives of peace and security.

The Keynote Speaker, the Deputy Commander, CRSAFP, COLONEL MEDEL M AGUILAR (Master in National Security Administration) Philippine Army challenged the students to use their skills to develop social media products that provide only the right information and only the truth.  These will effectively counter the narratives and propaganda of the enemy, and further protect the most vulnerable sectors of society, specifically referring to the youth who fall victims to the deceptive recruitment to the New People’s Army by the Makabayan Bloc.  He added that such advocacy of only the truth duly realizes the slogan of the CRSAFP “Veritas Vincit,” Truth Conquers.

Everybody’s health is paramount. All students have tested negative for COVID 19 in their RT-PCR testing and have undergone a mandatory 14-day quarantine at the School prior to the opening of the course. Strictly adhering to anti-COVID 19 protocols, the Opening Ceremony was conducted outdoors, with all attendees wearing of face masks and face shields, and observing physical distancing.

Constantly innovating the delivery of its trainings in order to cope with the new normal, the AFP CMO School continues to provide quality CMO education to help better equip members of the security forces to use social media as a tool to promote peace.
