MAJOR JO-AR A. HERRERA, the former Commandant of the Armed Forces of the Philippines was chosen as the Best Officer of the Year during the 64th anniversary of the AFP Civil Relations Service. Major Herrera was given the recognition for attaining notable milestones and accomplishments for the AFPCMOS, the CRSAFP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines as a whole during his incumbency from October 29, 2012 to January 28, 2015.
At the outset of his leadership, MAJOR HERRERRA worked on providing quality education and training through shared-education with stakeholders and developed a CMO holistic curriculum in the context of joint and multinational operations. He also pushed for the advancement of the global mindset in CMO and related doctrines as well as positioning the school as the most advanced strategic CMO School in the Asia- Pacific. His leadership has envisioned the school to be a prime learning institution of the AFP through the implementation of strategic approach standards in the conduct of CMO courses and training as well as enhancement of its capabilities. His plans and visions are now being adhered to and interspersed with the strategies and concepts of the present Commandant, MAJOR EDGARDO V. TALAROC, JR.
The award was presented by the Chief of Staff of the AFP, GEN GREGORIO PIO P. CATAPANG, JR., the guest of honor and speaker during the anniversary ceremony at the Multi-Purpose Hall of CRSAFP.
MAJOR HERRERA is currently the Chief of the Plans and Research Branch at the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training, OG8, Philippine Army. (Anabel T. Lasaten)
